This piece started out as a Patreon tutorial on "flow & rhythm" in creature design, and it eventually evolved into its current form. The title was borrowed from Franz Kafka's "Metamorphosis." Behind-the-scene progress pictures & video tutorials of this piece are available on the Simon Lee Patreon page.
It was history in the making..
Before there were "Mer-May," "Inktober," or any other month-long art challenge prompts of the likes, at the end of January 2011, there was artist Simon Lee's personal month-long sculptathon, "20 Days of Monsters." It was the singular event that caught the attention of Hollywood and jumpstarted Simon Lee's career as a concept artist.
As a self-taught artist with more than a decade experience in film concept design, Simon Lee has also taught professional artists from all over the world. He is commited in sharing his knowledge & experience with those in need.
